Wu Reigns Supreme After Epic Crucible Classic
Wu Yize etched his name into snooker history after defeating Shaun Murphy 18-17 in a thrilling World Championship final at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The dramatic contest went all the way to a deciding frame, producing one of the most memorable finals the sport has witnessed in recent decades.
At just 22 years old, Wu became the second-youngest world champion ever, behind only Stephen Hendry. His victory also marked a landmark moment for Chinese snooker, as he followed compatriot Zhao Xintong to become the second consecutive Chinese winner of the sport’s biggest prize.
The final was packed with attacking snooker, featuring three centuries and dozens of breaks over 50. Murphy fought back repeatedly to level the scores late in the match, but Wu held his nerve brilliantly in the deciding frame. A fearless long red opened the door before the young star compiled a stunning break of 85 to secure the title and the £500,000 top prize.
Wu’s triumph capped a remarkable breakthrough season and confirmed the arrival of a new global superstar in the game.
