Defending champion Kyren Wilson knocked seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan out of the Shanghai Masters with a 6-4 win in an entertaining second-round battle. Wilson raced into a 3-1 lead with breaks of 113 and 91, only for O'Sullivan to reel off three consecutive centuries of 100, 111, and 131 to briefly move ahead.

Wilson responded with runs of 89, 79, and 97 to close out the match, setting up a quarter-final against Mark Williams, who edged Chris Wakelin 6-5 earlier the same day. Wilson, whose family has faced a difficult few months away from the table, said it had been "nice" to get back to focusing purely on snooker.

Reigning back-to-back Wuhan Open champion Xiao Guodong compiled a maximum break in the third frame of his last-16 match against Neil Robertson at the Luwan Gymnasium, the fourth 147 of his professional career and the fifth maximum of the young 2026/27 season.

Xiao surged three frames clear with further breaks of 74, 133, 95, and 94, but Australian Robertson mounted a brilliant fightback, forcing a decider which he won to progress 6-5. It marks the 246th official maximum break in professional snooker history, stretching back to Steve Davis' first recognised 147 at the 1982 Lada Classic.
