Global snooker updates from this week in an easy 5-minute read

Kyren Wilson's Home Burgled Mid-Tournament

Kyren Wilson, the 2024 World Champion, was forced to withdraw from the Championship League Snooker event in Leicester after learning his family home had been burgled while he competed. Thieves struck within a narrow window on Monday morning, making off with luxury watches, jewellery, and £2,000 in cash earmarked for a children's cancer charity. Wilson's remaining group matches were awarded as walkovers. In an emotional statement, the world No. 8 said the loss of sentimental items hurt more than their monetary value. He's still due to play at the Shanghai Masters in late July.

Dean Young Stuns Un-Nooh in Championship League Shock

The opening week of the 2026 Championship League Snooker delivered its biggest upset when Dean Young, a player without a professional tour card, battled back from 2-0 down to hold reigning World Open champion Thepchaiya Un-Nooh to a 2-2 draw. The 24-year-old Scot followed up with wins over Louis Heathcote and 12-time women's world champion Reanne Evans to top his group. Elsewhere, unbeaten newcomer Chang Bingyu extended his perfect start to the season, while group winners included Gary Wilson, Xu Si, Zhang Anda, Ian Burns, and He Guoqiang. The competition's Grand Final is set for July 15th.
