Championship League Snooker Kicks Off New Season in Leicester
The 2025–26 snooker season concluded with several milestones, and the new 2026–27 campaign opened June 22 with the Championship League at Leicester Arena. World number three Zhao Xintong enters as top seed, one of just four top-16 players competing, alongside Kyren Wilson, Chris Wakelin, and Si Jiahui. Defending champion Stephen Maguire returns after beating Joe O'Connor in last year's final, hunting his seventh career ranking title. The event offers newcomers valuable experience and a Champion of Champions berth for the winner.
Kyren Wilson Withdraws From Championship League After Home Burglary
The 2026 Championship League, running June 22 to July 15 at Leicester Arena, is underway as the season's first ranking event. Ian Burns won Group 2, played June 23, advancing to Stage 2. Dylan Emery topped Group 3 a day earlier, but the match was overshadowed when Kyren Wilson withdrew after just one game, having learned his home had been burgled. The £328,000 tournament continues with group matches scheduled through early July ahead of the Stage 2 knockouts.
