Global snooker updates from this week in an easy 5-minute read
Brilliant Bai
Bai Yulu continued her remarkable form in the UK Championship qualifiers by defeating Scott Donaldson 6-5 after trailing 5-3, earning a Judgement Day match against Jack Lisowski. This follows her earlier victories against Farakh Ajaib and Jamie Jones, making her the first woman to win three consecutive matches in a ranking event since 1999. Bai has made 15 breaks over 50 in her matches so far, including breaks of 54, 51, and 66 against Donaldson. With her solid performance, Bai aims to be the first woman to reach the last 32 in this prestigious event.
Williams is a Champion …. of Champions
Mark Williams won his first Grosvenor Casinos Champion of Champions title, defeating Xiao Guodong 10-6 in Bolton. The victory marked a personal milestone for the 49-year-old Welshman, who had previously failed to win a match in the event. Williams, who earlier secured his 26th ranking title at the Tour Championship, earned £150,000 for the win. Xiao, impressive throughout the week, reached the final after victories over Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Selby. Despite a strong comeback from Xiao, Williams sealed the title with breaks of 95 and 67 in the final frames.
