Shenzhen Open
Shocks Galore as Williams and Zhao Fall Early

The Shenzhen Open delivered a dramatic opening round, with defending champion Mark Williams beaten 5-4 by Fan Zhengyi after going in-off on the final pink. World number one Zhao Xintong suffered a similarly cruel exit, edged out 5-4 by Scott Donaldson, continuing his wobble since taking over the top ranking.

Ronnie O'Sullivan also departed early, beaten 5-2 by Jiang Jun, as did home favourite Ding Junhui, who lost a thriller 5-4 to Ricky Walden. Shaun Murphy, last year's runner-up, said the key to the week is simply refusing to dwell on any one result: "You can't get too disappointed with a loss, you have to keep going and hope it's your week."

Scottish Open Qualifiers
Jimmy White's Fortnight Ends in Agonising Fashion

Jimmy White's remarkable run of form came to a heartbreaking end in the Scottish Open qualifiers, as the 64-year-old went down 4-3 to China's Liu Hongyu despite a sensational total clearance of 131 in the fifth frame to lead 3-2. It denied "the Whirlwind" a first appearance at the Edinburgh venue stages in three years.

The defeat couldn't take the shine off a fortnight to remember, which also included his dramatic 6-5 win over Matthew Stevens to qualify for the International Championship. The 131 was White's fourth century of the season and moves him to 331 career centuries on the official list.
