Global snooker updates from this week in an easy 5-minute read
Holt Finally Joins the 147 Club
Thirty years into his professional career, Michael Holt has finally compiled his first maximum break. The milestone arrived during a China Open qualifier against Mark Joyce, with the perfect clearance landing in frame three to push Holt to a 3-0 lead. Building on a blistering opening that included breaks of 54, 84 and 71, Holt surged to 4-0 before the match continued. The achievement marks the season's first 147 after snooker saw an unprecedented 24 maximums in 2025/26, and qualifies Holt for a $15,000 high-break bonus at the event. It now stands as the 242nd official maximum recorded in the sport's history.
California Venue Set to Host Third Stop on US Snooker Circuit
The United States Snooker Association has locked in eleven tournaments for its current National Tour, and the next on the calendar heads to Northern California. The Champion Snooker Club in Concord will welcome players for the 2026 Champion USSA Open on July 11-12, marking Event 3 of the season. The venue carries pedigree, having staged last year's national championship, and follows two already-completed tour stops in 2026. Organizer Peter Du is handling entries via email or a QR code on the event poster, while the USSA credited club owner Sanaullah Ansari for his ongoing backing of the sport stateside.
