King loses appeal
Mark King has lost his appeal against a five-year suspension and £68,299.50 fine imposed by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) for match-fixing and providing inside information related to his February 2023 match against Joe Perry. The Independent Appeals Committee, chaired by Philip Evans KC, upheld the original decision on May 13, 2025. King was initially suspended in March 2023 following an investigation into suspicious betting patterns. While charges concerning a December 2022 match against John Higgins were dismissed, the WPBSA emphasized its commitment to maintaining the sport's integrity. A decision on the appeal's cost responsibilities is pending.
